Tours

Go on a unique self-guided tour of the mine site. You’ll be fascinated to discover beautiful amethyst veins and learn about the geology and history of the mine. Guided tours for groups are available by request.

Explore the digging area, where you can unearth your own amethyst to take home. Pails, digging tools and running water are all available to assist with your amethyst adventure. Large amounts of amethyst are mined each year to replenish the digging area, provide landscape and garden stone and to supply the Amethyst Gift Centre, located in Thunder Bay.

Amethyst Mine Panorama has 60-70 years of reserves and will be providing amethyst for years to come. The exceptional variety of amethyst crystals makes Amethyst Mine Panorama well worth visiting!

Located 56 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario off Hwy 11-17 on East Loon Road. 8 kilometers up East Loon Rd.

Hours of Operation:

May 15 to June 30 – 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
July 1 to August 31 – 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
September 1 to October 15 – 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Mine Admission:

$7.08 Per person (children 5 and under FREE) Dig-your-own amethyst is priced at $3 per pound.
